Anyone working alongside Kevin Stelzer should be prepared to learn something new along the way and often unexpectedly. From ship building to wine tasting, to the pros and cons of spray polyurethane foam insulation in wall assemblies, Kevin has an endless appetite to understand more about pretty much everything. This passion to explore is exactly what makes him great at what he does. Typically the one to raise questions or dig for more information to simply get a more comprehensive view of a challenge that arises in his work, through employing fresh perspectives he adds to his already extensive knowledge base to uncover innovative solutions.
By challenging architectural norms, Kevin has actively sought smart construction solutions and is highly committed to the pursuit of high performance buildings. He has tirelessly investigated ways in which to accommodate construction restraints, the forces of nature, and client budgets to optimize construction details. Through a holistic design approach, Kevin can speak to architectural and mechanical aspects of his developments, allowing for a cohesive approach to design and implementation. Along with being deeply involved in his projects, Kevin never hesitates to mentor and offer his subject expertise to his peers.
My obsession is merging the technical challenges of deep sustainability with the lightness, transparency, and sculptural exploration of delightful architectural interventions.
Kevin served on the CaGBC Energy & Engineering Technical Advisory Group, on the UN Sustainable Buildings & Climate Initiative Task Force, and on the World Green Building Council Residential Performance Committee. He studied Building Science and he has participated in the design and development of some of Canada’s most compelling sustainable projects. His passion resides in sustainable development and ultra-high performance buildings.
